Starting with Life's Ingredients

“Showing these wonderful kids how to make my famous San Francisco Sourdough Waffles is one of the great joys of life.”

Cooking With Love

The San Francisco Unified School District has been a recipient of a grant from the US Department of Agriculture to start a program called Chef in the Classroom.

I was asked to participate as a guest chef. The program is designed to expose kids most at risk for developing unhealthy eating habits (grades K-5) to eating more fruits and vegetables.

I made my famous San Francisco Sourdough Waffles which contain whole grain flour and oats and we served a variety of cut up fruits, vanilla yogurt and honey as toppings. Everyone had a good time and the teachers and students loved the whole idea. I did this four times, twice at Franklin Elementary School on Union Street, once at George Moscone Elementary on 21st and Harrison and then at Malcolm X Academy, all in San Francisco.
